Day 11 Lockerbie to Armathwaite Cumbria

What a relief to get out of the Kings Arms, I'd spent all day there Sunday and while the rest has done me the power of good physically, it didn't appeal aesthetically, or in any other sense.

Piper Playing, for Americans in This Instance

The road out of Scotland was the most boring we have traversed, long straight and featureless. We got to the famous Gretna Green, Neil didn't propose again so we went for a coffee instead. They really milk the whole wedding thing which is good for Gretna as it was crawling with tourists of every nationality.

Already Proposed

Proposed a Coffee

Throughout our cycling Scotland miles we encountered little rain but as soon as we left the borders England greeted us with a storm of epic proportions, in a flash we were soaked to the skin. But the dauntless adventurers cycled on to the delights of Carlisle. I was a little concerned as our Satmap had run out of juice but Neil switched on his Satmap in his head and steered us through this the first of the English cities. The worst that happened was he had a puncture. So he fixed that and on we we went and would you believe it 5 miles later he had another! This one was right outside a garage doing puncture repairs! Well he fixed it himself no help from them!

Farewell Scotland, Hello England (and the rain!)

Second Puncture of the Day

After these two misfortunes and considering the fact we were soaked we thought we might stop at the Premier Inn on junction 42 of the M6 just nearby, but no, after a quick soup and roll carried on and came to this lovely little village and gorgeous pub, The Dukes Head. safely esconsed here after a delightful supper and chat with some locals, so pleased we didn't stop with the truckers.

  1. How are you tracking vs where you thought you'd be? You seem to be making fantastic progress

    1. We are a day ahead so not bad, the train journey pushed us ahead and Neil doing 60 miles on my sick wrist day helped.
