Day 6 Cromaty to Fort Augustus

Sunrise in Cromaty

A perfect sunny day dawned, I saw the sunrise from the bedroom window about 6am then the magical sight of an enormous cruise liner docking with the lights twinkling, it did look lovely. You would think with all this action it would be noisy, the complete contrary, perfect peace, even Upton Hellions is noisier with the bleating of sheep!

Along the Caledonian Canal

With such glorious weather things could only be good and so they were especially the couple of miles along the towpath of the Caledonian canal this morning. Neil did promise me as we were riding alongside loch Ness it would be relatively flat, what a liar! How come all the ups are so long and the downs go by in a flash before you can even get to enjoy them!

Proof We Were There

I have got to say here how impressed I am with my Lycra lad, he got on his bike and just kept plodding on up all the hills no getting off such an athlete! Mind you he did spend long periods sprawled in the laybys and verges waiting for me. I tend to get off on a regular basis, though I can admit to very little walking, just catch my breath, swear a bit and stagger off again. Neil insisted on wearing his lime green waterproof all the time. I did suggest he wore the high vis waistcoat but no, he was convinced his jacket was breathable. I did mention if it was breathable maybe it wouldn't be waterproof but then what do I know! Well it is waterproof, Neil was soaking inside and no moisture was escaping, at one point he felt drips on his leg and thought it was rain! Silly boy!

Loch Ness

Loch Ness is truly spectacular today was the perfect day to see it, we kept having to stop and admire the lake but sadly no sign of Nessie. A long day and we are both aching, my thigh muscles are protesting and pain in the nether regions, we won't go there, didn't know I had all those places, need a new pot of Sudocrem tomorrow!

Castle Urquhart on Loch Ness

Presently safely ensconced at the Three Bridges B&B let's see what we can find for supper in Fort Augustus.

A Nice Real Ale

  1. the pics of the loch look gorgeous! perhaps to mix it up a bit you can swear in a variety of languages; english i have to say you are quite proficient, dust off some of your serbo croat and afrikaans, and I know you have an italian expletive or two up your sleeve.

  4. I knew all that practice along the towpath to Turf Locks would come in handy. Neil do I need to add a urologist to the list of consultants I am lining up for you?

  5. I love the picture of Neil on the tow path. I am fully expecting to be riding his bike in future with the hi-vis gear.
